The Masterpiece Within

If you look at this piece of wood, what do you see? This piece of wood was one of the inspirations behind the book, Awakened Faith that I published with Susan Anthony. It has always looked like the Pietà to me
.
Michelangelo sculpted the Pietà between 1498 and 1500. He was part of the pre-Renaissance movement, artists of that period believed that a statue already existed in a rough piece of marble. They would chip away at the stone, and allow themselves to be guided to find the masterpiece within.
“In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped and perfect in attitude and action. I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to the other eyes as mine see it,” Michelangelo had said.
It’s the same with us. We are both works in progress and a masterpiece at the same time. We are guided to find the masterpiece within— a beautiful work of living, breathing art, formed by understanding, sculpted by life lessons, and framed in Spirit’s light and love.
